"Just because she's an AI gives you no right to kill her. She has a
soul, too. It’s just different. I won't let you kill another
innocent...never again!"
Aeki gritted her teeth, eyes planted on Ayah's staff. "An AI? With a
soul? Is that what you think?" She waved her hand, letting Rei's sword
which had remained suspended by her shield, clatter to the floor.
This wasn't the first time that the two had met and Aeki had hoped
that the first was the last. She hadn't minded her tongue before, the
slip being one of built up anger. She wouldn't let it happen again. That
was the way Aeki thought, the way she worked, the fool proof way of
never failing anyone.
The three Long Arms which were knocked to the ground by the airborne
Rei were now back to their feet, attention switching between the AI and
Ayah. Aeki straightened herself, her formality pouring from her skin
once again. She spoke in a commanding voice toward the three Long Arms
before her and the three others in the vicinity. "Half stay with me. The
rest chase after the AI!"
The words were spoken and immediately the three ordered to stay with
Aeki poised their spears at Ayah, the light glinting off of the heads
like venom lacing a snake's fangs. Aeki wasted no time. Already the
floor beneath shined a bright light, forming a magic circle
characteristic of a spell. Aeki held her hands out. "Cover me you
three!"
~~~~~~~~~ (I have no idea why I feel the need to do this since we're not really...changing scenes...)~~~~~~~~~
The NPC girl stood behind Ayah the entire time, surprised etched in
her features. Apparently the two knew each other before and the whole
moment proved better than the worse it could be. Now only three people were after her rather than seven...
But there were still three more warriors willing to kill her than
she needed. They charged relentlessly towards her, willing--no, eager to
kill her. It was different than facing a normal player; there wasn't a
real human being behind an AI. The NPC's legs had begun to run back but
her eyes remained on Ayah. Her one companion she had to leave in the
hands of an admin.
She couldn't waste any time on her. The girl spun around, cursing to herself. She would've been so much more use if she stayed hidden! But things turned out better than I expected...
Before she could have run very far, the girl slammed face first into
the quarantined barrier. The invisible wall flashed upon impact, sending
a ripple right through the barrier.
"Agh--!" She stumbled back, her nose now a sharp red. Her hands flew
up to her nose, stinging pain stringing up her face. She spared only a
moment to turn around and immediately found a spear head flying towards
her face. The girl quickly pulled out, the spear skimming her cheek and
impaling right into the barrier.
Another one followed suit, swinging her spear downward to avoid
hitting her comrade. The AI jumped to the side, successfully dodging the
attack only to have her head nearly chopped of by another swing. She
ducked low, bracing herself with her hand and rolled to the side. Even
then, fate seemed against her, if fate still worked inside a game. The
AI found herself up against a wall now, a real wall that belonged to the
structure of the city. The running space was suddenly very limited.
"Dammitdammitdammit!" the girl spat violently as the third one took
the scene. The first and second one finally recovered, towering over the
short Ai's form. The girl shrunk away, desperate to find a hiding spot,
a mouse hole for her to crawl into, but there was none. The spears were
poised at her, their eyes veiled by helmets. What the AI could see was
their mouths, their grins left unveiled by the helmet. It was the last
thing she wanted to see at her death bed. This is bad! I'm stuck between a wall and a lion's pit! Dammit, if only the barrier were down!
The first Long Arm spoke, not to the girl, but to her comrades.
"I'll do the honors." She raised her spear, peering down at the AI, pure
ecstasy falling from her words. And down fell her spear.
"Damn!!" The AI's eyes slammed shut and her hands fell on to the
barrier wall, sinking into the very much like it did with the report.
The wall flashed a bright red, crimson bleeding, spreading
through the entire barrier. Only seconds after the red seeped into the
wall did a sonic boom, one of greater magnitude than earlier, shatter
the barrier. An explosion rocked the city, causing quite a commotion on
the other side as smoke suddenly filled the area close to the barrier.
The three Long Arms were enveloped into the smoke.
"What the hell happened?!"
"Where did she go?! Don't let her get away!"
The Long Arms waved their arms, a desperate attempt to ward away the
smoke, a trick that probably would've worked if it were in real life.
But they weren't, and when visibility had even slightly returned, the
first Long Arm's spear was empty.
