En's eyes were preoccupied all the while as Victor and Elywen conversed.
The church was a bigger concern. It wasn't as if En had visited this
church before, the entire city itself was foreign. The appearance of the
place was haunting and had yet to give off the saintly feel that most
churches seemed to radiate. It may have been the fact that it was an
abandoned church but why did it feel so uneasy to just stand in such a
place?
A loud sound brought En's attention back to the party, accompianing
an unintentional damnation of all souls. How ironic it was for that word
to be used inside a church. There was Victor, leaning forward with his
hands pressed against his head. It was then that En realized that the
low mumbling had come from Victor yet by now, all words had been lost.
All that could be drawn from the mumbles was something about problems
which only seemed to widen En's suspicions. Victor cast an awkward
glance toward the frail being, grinning slightly all the while.
"I always seem to make a fool of myself in front of you.”
En's eyebrows raised, slightly grinning back although it seemed
extremely forced, the way the mouth curled. "Is that so? I didn't
notice. I thought you were always like that." En then poked Victor's
head, sarcastic look crossing the pale face once again once the smile no
longer held its value. "You get a bit duller in the head every time
that happens you know, although for you that might not be such a big
deal."
Even though En's comments seemed even more insulting than usual,
none of them hid the trembling which En had tried to hard already to
conceal. Whatever response Victor threw back fell on deaf ears. En once
again turned eyes back towards the church, melancholic look all the so
often switching to anxiety. It looked as if the being was a foreign
element in the church which was trying to expel it. It certainly felt
that way.
It surpised En though, how calm the other two members were. Why
didn't they feel the same way? En finally spoke again, addressing the
party yet expecting Elywen, who had gotten them into the mess in the
first place, to respond.
"How long do we have to stay here? Or more precisely, how long will
the black suits be prowling around here?" En shifted positions, bowing
head a bit more as if trying to bury it into the scarf around En's neck.
"I don't want to stay here longer than I have to..."
